Walnut
An interior designer who worked at the architectural/engineering firm where I worked sent me a photograph of an unique table base that was supported without using any horizontal or vertical members. She asked if I could make a base from walnut for which she would provide a tempered glass top. I made a half-size mock-up in pine to verify the approach that I planned for using 1/2″ dowels to hold the various elements together. Due to the complexity of applying a urethane finish I applied a six coats of a wipe on urethane finish to avoid runs. Photographs below show some progress shots taken during fabrication and assembly.
