Quarter Sawn White Oak
Upon moving into her new house my niece was unhappy with the appearance of the island and shelves in her new kitchen. The builder had made the island and shelves from rotary cut ash and applied a dark stain as shown in the first photograph. She asked if I could do anything to improve the appearance. Given the wild stain of the plywood I suggested that we simply reface the stained wood and create a frame and panel theme using white oak to match her floors. The second photo shows the final product after refacing. Similar recoverings were made for shelves and the fireplace mantel.
