Walnut and Ebony
An architect friend of mine gave me a series of sketches for two end tables, each a mirror image of the other, and asked me if I would make the pair for him and his wife. The sketches showed an unconventional design incorporating a concealed drawer and a space for a laptop computer behind the drawer. I suggested and he agreed to include a small ebony accent stripe on the table tops for visual interest. The drawer bodies are made from Aspen with hand cut dovetail joints. The table tops are assembled using bread board ends to allow for wood movement, and the pieces are held together with a series of glued dowels.
