Cherry
A friend from the church where we attend showed me a photo from a magazine that his wife had saved for years. It showed a series of “floating” shelves attached to the wall in an unique interlocking configuration. I remembered reading an article some years ago about a type of construction called torsion-box that is very strong but also light weight. It uses plywood surfaces separated by a interlocking grid to reduce weight. I used natural colored cherry for the exposed surfaces, plywood for the tops and bottoms of the shelves and solid cherry for the edges. Photos below show the inner workings of the shelves prior to assembly.
